Lansing Juneteenth Committee Lansing, MI -- The Juneteenth Committee of Lansing Third Annual Community Leadership Luncheon was held Thursday, April 21, 2005 at the Local 652 U A W, 426 Clare St. The purpose of the luncheon was to bring together community leaders in a forum to get a better understanding of Juneteenth (the oldest African American Holiday). As well as to prepare for the Grand Celebration on June 16, 2005 at the State Capital and June 17th and 18th 2005 at St. Joseph Park in Lansing.
The theme for this year’s celebration is Carter enters race for 4th Ward Lansing City Council seat Lansing, MI -- Local businesswoman and community activist, Shirley M. Carter, announced she is running for the 4th Ward seat on the Lansing City Council. Carter is running for the seat currently held by Geneva Smith. Carter says she wants to help make City Government work for everyone and to help improve Lansing’s overall standard of living. “As a Council member I will work tirelessly on issues ranging from economic growth, to public school, to park and recreation, to public safety. I will be a strong advocate for our youth, our seniors and working people.” Carter believes city government should be more accessible to the people of the 4th Ward. “I will maintain an open door policy to hear all questions and concerns from my constituents and work swiftly to achieve results. Together we can...together we will make a difference.” Carter is founder and CEO of Against All Odds, a 501-C-3 organization which provides information and support for African-American breast cancer survivors and their families. Carter is a two times breast cancer survivor. She is also the president of C.J. Management, Inc. a firm that provides services including business consulting, public relations, marketing and mobile notary services as well as managing performing artists. |
