Julian Van Dyke, Local Artist LANSING MI -- Julian Van Dyke, Artist, was the creator of "The Core and More" a mural that was presented for Averill's 40th Birthday Program in December 2004. Van Dyke's mural represented History, Reading, Arts and Math for the elementary school. Averill's dedication to teacher and pupil excellence is recognized by the Lansing Public School District. Superintendent E. Sharon Banks and Diana Rouse were on hand for the presentation. Principal Rosa Thill was the Mistress of Ceremony for the special program of history and music. Van Dyke's dedication to his talent is displayed in many of his works. A dedicated member of Friendship Baptist Church, he is responsible for the design on the exterior of the building, the logo and the sanctuary back wall mural. He also designed the cover of their cookbook, "In Our Tradition" which was a church effort. He was the first artist to display work at the Lear Center - School of Business Learning Center at Michigan State University. "Create within yourself. Be sure to get your education which is always important," says Van Dyke. He's an artist whose work mirrors the Power and Sensitivity of Life Itself. "I approach my work with an open feeling to create. The inspiration usually comes from a spontaneous thought or dream I've had. That often dictates the style or technique I use," he further shares. Originally from Benton Harbor, he is a full time artist. Julian Van Dyke's work certainly will be recognized for years to come. He and his wife have a son who teaches in Detroit and another son and daughter in college. On Sunday, February 6, 2005 the
Absolute Gallery in Old Town will host a show for him. Be sure
