The late legendary operatic and concert singer Marian Anderson will be honored in Febuary on the 28th commemorative stamp in the U.S. Postal Service’s Black Heritage Stamp series. In 1939, Anderson sang on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial before more than 75,000 people and in 1955 the international performer broke the color barrier by becoming the first Black to sing at New York’s Metropolitian Opera (the MET). Anderson died in 1993. The stamp will be available in January 2005.

Dec 29 – Lansing School District will be accepting bids to furnish and install Cellular Phone Service, Pager Service, Data/Voice Circuit and E-mail Software. Bid # SO-1270 USF 2005-06 (Year 8). Bids will be received in the form of a sealed proposal, marked per instructions contained in the Request for Bid, at the Purchasing Office, 519 W. Kalamazoo Street, Lansing, MI 48933 until 2:00 P.M. local time, December 29, 2004. No late bids will be accepted. Bids will be opened publicly at the Lansing School District Purchasing office at 2:00 P.M., local time on December 29, 2004 and read aloud. This project requires the payment of prevailing wages. All bidders are required to furnish bid security in the amount of five percent (5%) of the base bid.
