LANSING, MI – Got hickory smoke? The members of Prince of Peace Baptist Church have been cooking up a storm holding weekend BarBeQue fundraisers on the future site of their church ,1400 W. Jolly Rd.

The planned church will sit on three acres of land according to Prince of Peace Pastor, the Rev. Carroll Carter , Sr. The blueprint for the proposed house of worship calls for a 18,000 square foot building,, with seating for 700, and includes a multi-purpose center.

Since June, Prince of Peace members have been smoking meat and frying fish to finance their dream. And the response has been overwhelming. “The BarBeQue has been very successful. So successful that we can’t quit,” Rev. Carter continued. “A lot of pastors and churches stop by. Even if they don’t buy anything they leave a donation. When we shut down people are still coming,.”
Every Friday and Saturday mouth watering soul food is ready at 11 a.m. and is served until 8 p.m.

“We will be doing this until it gets too cold,” Rev. Carter said.

The tasty menu consists of pork ribs, rib tips, chicken and fried fish dinners that come with two sides. Sandwiches are also available.

The Prince of Peace members are excited about moving away from the crowded conditions at 2000 Forest Ave. “We need more room and accessibility for the handicapped and seniors citizens,” Rev. Carter explained. “We have 352 members and we are growing.”

The church construction is slated to cost about 1.5 million. Prince of Peace members hope to break ground before the end of this year, according to Rev. Carter. The financing has been approved, but “the more money we put in now, the less we have to pay back later, “ said Rev. Carter, who has stood in the pulpit for the past five years.
