Oct. 2004 > Feb. 2005 The Detroit Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History (CHWMAAH) presents a dark period of terrorism in American history with the internationally acclaimed exhibition Without Sanctuary: Lynching Photography in America. The Museum is located at 315 East Warren Avenue in Detroit's Cultural Center and is open to the public Wednesdays through Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. through 5:00 p.m., and Sundays 1:00 to 5:00 p.m.

Oct. 2 – 5th Annual Youth Dev. Corp. Road Rally, BBQ and Auction. Theme: Rally for the Stars. Starting point: Lansing Police Dept. N. Precinct 1:30 p.m. Drivers receive clues and start road rally at 5 p.m. drivers return for BBQ and Silent Auction.$25.00 per driver, $15.00 per passenger and $10.00 for dinner and auction only. Oct. 2 - The New Mt.Calvary Baptist Church presents "Gospel Songfest" featuring "The New Gospel Keynotes of Tyler Texas ,"The Dynamic Soul Superiors from Detroit,and Lansing's own "The Mighty Royalaires".The event will be held at New Mt Calvary Baptist Church, located at 3800 West Miller Road, Lansing, MI where Dr.Clayton, is Pastor. Oct. 17 – 2nd Annual Gourmet Gents, featuring gentlemen chefs in the Greater Lansing Community, at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center Banquet Hall, 819 Abbott Rd., from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.Tickets: $15.00 teens and adults. Youth $7.50. Carryout: $15.00. Sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Tau Omega Chapter, Lansing, MI. Proceeds earmarked for community programs and scholarships.

Oct. 23 – 2nd Annual Jazz Brunch featuring the MSU Professors of Jazz in the MSU Kellogg Center, Big Ten Room, East Lansing, MI at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the East Lansing Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tickets - $40.00. Proceeds to fund chapter programs and scholarships. Call: 622-4025.

Oct. 29 – 39th Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet to be held at the Holiday Inn South Conference Center, 6820 S. Cedar St. The theme is: Brown V. Board of Education: Keeping Our Eyes on the Prize. The Key note speaker is Wade Henderson, Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. Dinner is slated to begin promptly at 7 p.m. Call: (517) 484-9171.

Nov. 11 - The 47th Annual Ebony Fashion Fair. Sponsored by the Links, Inc., Lansing/East Lansing Chapter at the MSU Wharton Center at 8:00 p.m. Ticket costs: $30.00. Proceeds will benefit local Student Scholarships and The Black Child and Family Inst. - See Advertisement in Side Bar.
