Aug. 20 > 22 – The 22nd Annual African World Festival sponsored by the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History and held at the downtown Detroit Hart Plaza. Free.

Aug. 21 - First Annual Tri - County Summerfest 11 a.m. - dusk at the Adado Riverfront Park (by the City Market ) - downtown Lansing, Free. The public is welcome.

Aug. 27 – Are you aware of brothers loving on the “Down Low?” J. L. King, author of “On The Down Low” , which exposes a closeted culture of sex between Black men who also lead “straight” lives. King will present and sign his work at the Shrine of the Black Madonna Bookstore, 13535 Livernois, Detroit, MI from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Free. Call: (313) 491-0777.

Student Life and Leadership at Downtown Lansing Campus Washington Square Mall Outdoor Amphitheater Stage. Music begins at 11 a.m. Free.

Sept. 11 - Unity in the Community Festival - Honoring Our Elders - at the Adado Riverfront Park - downtown Lansing from 11 a.m. - dusk, Free. The public is welcome.

Sept. 15 - Prostate Cancer Awareness Forum at St. Stephen’s Community Church, 1420 W. Oakland Ave, Lansing, MI. Learn from medical experts and survivors at 6:30 p.m. Free.

Sept. 22 & 29 - Prostate Cancer Screening and Early Detection Program at the MSU Great Lakes Cancer Institute and the Breslin Cancer Center @ Ingram Regional Medical Center, 401 W. Oct. 17 – 2nd Annual Gourmet Gents, featuring gentlemen chefs in the Greater Lansing Community, at the East Lansing Hannah Community Center Banquet Hall, 819 Abbott Rd., from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.Tickets: $15.00 teens and adults. Youth $7.50. Carryout: $15.00. Sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Delta Tau Omega Chapter, Lansing, MI. Proceeds earmarked for community programs and scholarships.

Oct. 23 – 2nd Annual Jazz Brunch featuring the MSU Professors of Jazz in the MSU Kellogg Center, Big Ten Room, East Lansing, MI at 10 a.m. Sponsored by the East Lansing Chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. Tickets - $40.00. Proceeds to fund chapter programs and scholarships. Call: 622-4025.

Oct. 29 – 39th Annual NAACP Freedom Fund Banquet to be held at the Holiday Inn South Conference Center, 6820 S. Cedar St. The theme is: Brown V. Board of Education: Keeping Our Eyes on the Prize. The Key note speaker is Wade Henderson, Executive Director of the Leadership Conference on Civil Rights. Dinner is slated to begin promptly at 7 p.m. Call: (517) 484-9171.

Nov. 11 - The 47th Annual Ebony Fashion Fair. Sponsored by the Links, Inc., Lansing/East Lansing Chapter at the MSU Wharton Center at 8:00 p.m. Ticket costs: $30.00. Proceeds will benefit local Student Scholarships, The Black Child and Family Institute and the United Negro College Fund
