Talented, dynamic sophomore starts choir
at East Lansing High School

East Lansing High School offers its students a lot of clubs and interesting activities, but the one thing they didn’t have was a gospel choir, according to 10th grader Ryan Menefee.So, the talented sophomore, son of Ronald and Diana Menefee, decided to do something about it.

He started his own group and added gospel choir to the list of after school activities offered to his Trojan classmates.Ryan has long been interested in starting a choir at East“It’s something I’ve been wanting to do since September,” Ryan said, "but we just started on January 27th.” Singing is nothing new to Ryan. It’s been a part of his life almost as long as he can remember.

“I’ve been singing in my church since I was 8-years-old,” he said.
Ryan is 16-years-old.However, for as long as Ryan’s been singing, he’s not really looking to make it a career. “I want to produce music, “he said. “I’ve been directing at my former church, Pilgrim Rest, for a year.”He served as one of the assistants to choir director, Ervin Rodgers. Ryan has since moved to New Bethel Christian Church where he plans to join the choir soon.

Even though the East Lansing High School gospel choir is just starting up, Ryan has plans for his song birds in a few months.
“I want us to sing at the actual graduation this year,” he declared.
His are big plans, but the initiative and drive he’s shown thus far indicates big potential. We should look out for this talented East Lansing High School gospel choir in the future.
